Transfers and direct debits in euros are being standardized throughout Europe. The term SEPA stands for Single Euro Payments Area, i.e., the uniform, Europe-wide payments area. This SEPA area consists of all countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area as well as Switzerland. The aim of SEPA is to create common standards for payment transactions. According to these standards, all domestic and cross-border transfers, direct debits and also card payments are to be processed in euros in the future. This will make payments within the Community faster and more convenient.

What else should I know?
In euro payments, IBAN and BIC replace account number and bank code. You will find your IBAN and BIC on your account statement, in online banking, and in the future on your Bank Card.
IBAN = International Bank Account Number
BIC = Business Identifier Code (international bank code)The international account number IBAN: In addition to your familiar bank code and account number, you only need to remember two new things for the IBAN: the country code DE for Germany and an individual check digit.
IBAN = DE + check digit+ bank code + account number
The BIC identifies the bank and is used like the domestic bank code.
