Expansion of digital infrastructures in Rhineland-Palatinate (broadband)
Service description
The state government of Rhineland-Palatinate is promoting the establishment and expansion of digital infrastructures and the installation of WLAN hotspots in municipal areas. The availability of high bandwidths (50 Mbit/s) increased by 78.7 percentage points from mid-2011 to 85.5 percent at the end of 2018. This puts Rhineland-Palatinate in first place among the German states in terms of increases over this period.
In the next few years, all efforts will focus on switching the network infrastructure from copper to fiber optics. The network alliance for Rhineland-Palatinate, consisting of the telecommunications industry, its associations, municipal leaders and chambers of commerce, has also agreed on this together with the state.
