Broadcasting fee - apply for exemption

  • Service description

    If you receive certain social benefits, such as basic income support or unemployment benefit II, you can be exempted from the obligation to pay broadcasting fees. Recipients of unemployment benefit I, housing benefit or transitional allowance are not entitled to an exemption.

  • Process flow

    You must apply in writing to the competent authority for exemption from the broadcasting fee. Use the prescribed form for this.
    You will receive it

    • for cities,
    • For municipalities,
    • with the competent authorities and
    • on the Internet.

    You can fill out the Internet form online. Print it out at the end of the input process and sign it. Attach the required supporting documents and send your documents by mail to the relevant office.

    Special instructions for - Verbandsgemeinde Göllheim

    You can obtain the form for exemption from the broadcasting fee from the social welfare office of the Göllheim municipality.

  • Requirements

    • They receive government social benefits, such as:
      • Unemployment benefit II
      • Social assistance
      • BAföG
      • Basic security
    • or you are deafblind
    • or receive assistance for the blind.

    Notes:

    You can apply for an exemption from the broadcasting contribution as a special case of hardship if you do not receive any social benefits because your income exceeds the respective needs limit by less than EUR 17.50. If you are exempt from the obligation to pay the contribution, the exemption within the dwelling also extends to the following

    • Your wife or husband
    • Your registered domestic partner,
    • Children of the applicant, his/her spouse or civil partner up to the age of 25,
    • the apartment owners , whose income and assets have been taken into account when granting a social benefit.
  • What documents are needed?

    A legible copy of one of the following documents is suitable for exemption from the obligation to pay broadcasting fees:

    • Certificate of the authority
    • Approval notice

    It is imperative that all of the following requirements are evident from the evidence:

    • Name of the beneficiary
    • What benefit is granted
    • Performance period

    Please do not send any original documents to the Contribution Service. A return of documents cannot be guaranteed.

  • What are the fees?

    Application procedure and examination: none

  • What deadlines do I have to observe?

    The duration of the exemption depends on the validity period of the respective certificate.

    The exemption begins on the first of the month in which the validity period begins. Previous periods can be taken into account retroactively for a maximum of three years from the date of application.

    The exemption is granted at the earliest at the beginning of the month following the application.

    The broadcasting fee replaced the license fee on January 1, 2013.

  • Short text

    If you receive state social benefits, you can be exempted from the broadcasting fee. The same applies to deaf-blind people and recipients of assistance for the blind.
