Service description
Every dog owner is obliged to register his dog.
The obligation to register is regulated in detail in the respective municipal statutes, as is the assessment of the dog tax.
A registration obligation of the dog is necessary, among other things,
- for dogs older than three months. They must be identified by a transponder with identification number
- when acquiring a new dog or moving in with a dog
- In the case of care or custody of a dog for a period of time determined by the local dog tax statutes.
Please note that more differentiated and supplementary regulations apply to the keeping of so-called dangerous dogs.

In addition, every dog owner is obliged to keep his dog on a leash on public roads within a place or in areas that cannot be seen. Outside of a place, they must be leashed immediately when other people approach or become visible.
Violations of the state law on dangerous dogs (LHundeG) can be punished with a fine of up to ten thousand euros. In addition, violations of the municipal bylaws can also be punished.
