In Rhineland-Palatinate, collections require a permit if they are collected by direct person-to-person contact (e.g. door-to-door or street collections).

The German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) provides information and evaluations on organizations that collect donations. According to its own information, the DZI documents about 1,000 donation organizations of the social, especially humanitarian and charitable sector in its welfare archive. The DZI answers inquiries from private individuals, companies, public authorities and the media against reimbursement of costs.
