Assistance in special life situations (General)

Even if you are usually able to support yourself on a monthly basis, you may find yourself in an emergency situation due to certain circumstances, such as illness or frailty. For such cases, there is assistance in special life situations.

The main aids here are:

Help to continue the budget:

If, for health reasons, you need outside help to run your household, e.g. to clean your home, do the laundry or go shopping, and your income is so low that you cannot pay the costs incurred, you can apply for a subsidy or for the costs to be paid.

Foster Care Assistance:

If you are in need of care as a result of illness or disability and are dependent on outside help and care, you can, if your income does not exceed certain limits, receive assistance for care under the Social Code. As a rule, however, you must have applied for care benefits from your care insurance fund beforehand, as social assistance is generally subordinate to other forms of assistance. If the benefits are refused by the nursing care insurance fund or if they are not sufficient to cover the actual need for assistance, the social welfare office will grant assistance for nursing care after examining your personal and financial circumstances and after a medical assessment by a public health officer.

In some situations, since social assistance is also granted from the date of application, it is advisable to submit an informal application to the social welfare office at the same time as submitting the application to the long-term care insurance fund.
