  • Service description

    If you move, you must register at your new residence.

    For children up to the age of 16, the person into whose home the children move must register them. If necessary, the consent of the legal guardian is required.

  • Process flow

    For registration, you must complete and sign the officially prescribed registration form. You must hand this in personally or appoint another suitable person to hand it in.

    Depending on the offer of the municipality, it may be possible to dispense with filling in the registration form and to receive the data directly if you appear in person at the competent office. You must then confirm the accuracy of the data on a printout by signing it.

    Family members and members of a civil partnership, if they move on the same day from a common dwelling to a new common dwelling, should use a registration form together.

    After the registration you will receive a confirmation of registration.

    If the competent authority in your new place of residence has opened Internet access for registration, you can also submit the required information via this access using a qualified electronic signature.

    You cannot use this service if you are

    • move in from abroad or
    • use a pseudonym instead of your name in your electronic signature.

    In these cases, you must log in as described above.

  • What documents are needed?

    • Identity card or passport, if the registrant has reached the age of 16.
    • Personal documents of the family members who are registered together on one registration form
      • for children: Child passport or birth certificate

    The registration office may require the submission of additional documents that serve as proof of the information (for example, birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce decree).

  • What are the fees?

    None

    If you do not fulfill your obligation to re-register or do not do so in time, you commit an administrative offense that can be punished with a fine.

  • What else should I know?

    To vote in a municipality election, you must have lived in the municipality for at least three months and be eligible to vote. If you register with a municipality with your main place of residence, you will automatically be entered on the electoral roll for the next upcoming election or vote. Special features apply to the European election for foreign citizens of the Union.
