Register residence
Service description
If you move into a new home, you must register with the registration office responsible for you at your new place of residence within two weeks of moving in.
If you are under 16 years old, you must be registered by the person whose home you are moving into.
If you are over 18 years of age and have a guardian or caregiver who can determine your residence, your new home must be registered by your guardian or caregiver.
You only have to register newborns born in Germany if they move to a different home from that of their parents or mother.
To register your new home, you must come in person to the registration office responsible for you or authorize another person to do so.
What documents are needed?
- Completed registration form (except for automated registration register)
- At least one proof of identity:
- Identity card
- Provisional identity card
- Replacement identity card
- Recognized and valid passport
- Recognized and valid passport replacement document
- When moving into a rental property: landlord's confirmation of residence or corresponding allocation feature
- When purchasing residential property: notarized purchase contract or extract from the land register
- For persons under guardianship: written power of attorney or guardian's identity card
- If represented by another person: written power of attorney and identification documents of the person to be registered
- If moving from abroad: last residential address in Germany (confirmation of registration, date of moving in and out)
- For spouses, life partners and family members with the same move-in dates: Date of moving in and previous and current residences
- The competent authority may request the submission of further documents to verify the information (for example: marriage certificate, birth certificate)
What are the fees?
There are no fees to pay.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
You must register your new place of residence within 2 weeks of moving into your new home.

What else should I know?
Special instructions for - Verbandsgemeinde GöllheimPersons aged 16 and over exercise the obligation to register in person. The registration or deregistration of persons under the age of 16 is the responsibility of the person in whose home the person under the age of 16 moves in or out.
When registering a minor child from the household of a parent who is not moving in with you, the consent of this parent is required for the child's registration. A template for the declaration of consent can be found below.
