Request certificate of marriageability

If you would like to get married abroad, you can apply for a certificate of no impediment to marriage. Foreign authorities often require this certificate for a marriage.

The certificate of no impediment to marriage confirms that, under German law, you are permitted to marry the person named therein—that is, for example,

• are not already married,
• are legally competent,
• are of legal age.

You can also apply for a certificate of no impediment to marriage if you wish to enter into a civil partnership abroad.
