    What are the civil status documents?

    The registry office issues the following civil status certificates in accordance with § 55 of the Civil Status Act (PStG)
    • certified printouts of registers from all civil status registers
    • from the birth register birth certificates
    • from the marriage register marriage certificates
    • from the civil partnership register Civil partnership certificates
    • from the death register death certificates
    • from the collection of death declarations certified copies

    Who can apply ?

    The civil status registers contain personal data that is subject to data protection. Pursuant to Section 61 of the Civil Status Act, the issuance of civil status certificates and information can only be requested from persons to whom the entry relates, as well as their spouses, ancestors and descendants.

    Other persons - i.e. also siblings, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and other relatives - only have a right if they credibly demonstrate a legal interest.

    If you do not belong to the group of persons mentioned above, you must present a written power of attorney from an authorized person.In the case of the birth register or death register, the prima facie evidence of a legitimate interest is sufficient if the application is submitted by a sibling of the child or the deceased. Persons over 16 years of age are authorized to apply.

    In special cases (adoption, change of first name according to the Transsexuals Act) as well as in the case of possible blocking notes, the group of persons who can request the issuance of civil status certificates is limited.
