Adoption of a German child Notarization in the birth register
Service description
Was your child born in Germany and you adopted him or her in Germany? Then, after the adoption proceedings have been completed, the family court notifies the registry office that keeps the child's birth record, which then makes a subsequent certification of the adoption as a child in the register of births.
Note: You can request new birth certificates or certified printouts from the birth register.
If you have adopted your child abroad, you can apply for subsequent certification in Germany.
Process flow
The family court that pronounced the adoption sends its decision to the registry office of the place of birth of your adopted child.
The registrar completes the child's birth entry and forwards the information to the following offices:- the registry office that keeps the birth records for the child's natural parents,
- the registry office that keeps the birth records for the adoptive parents,
- the registry office that keeps the marriage or civil partnership record for the child if the child's name has changed,
- the registry office keeping the birth record of a descendant of the child, if the descendant's name at birth has changed,
- the registry office I in Berlin, if the birth or the marriage or the establishment of a civil partnership of the child took place abroad,
- the registration office.
The certified printout from the birth register contains information about both the birth parents and the adoptive parents. This is required for registration for marriage, so that there cannot be a marriage between birth siblings. A birth certificate, on the other hand, only identifies the adopters as parents.
